AHLMA Asociación de Hermanas Latinas Misioneras en América
AHLMA Announces Transition of Executive Director and Board
San Antonio, TX. December 7, 2020
AHLMA [Asociación de Hermanas Latinas Misioneras en América], our association of Latin American and Latina Sisters serving in the United States. With your support and encouragement, we have begun a leadership transition that will help us refocus the vision.
The last AHLMA Encuentro held online in July 2020 served as the springboard for our organization’s transition. Over seventy Latina Sisters, vicars for religious, and representatives of different organizations serving religious life in the United States gathered to imagine how AHLMA can better serve our members. We affirmed the need for an organization that can convene and represent the diversity of Latina Sisters serving in the United States.
Recognizing that some were born in the United States, some migrated a long time ago, and still others have only just begun their mission here, we felt called to widen the tent.
The board affirmed the need for a transition and appointed Sr. Teresa Maya, CCVI, Sr. Ivette Diaz, RSM, Sr. Veronica Esparza, OP to join Sr. Elizabeth Ann Vazquez, SSCJ, and Sr. Joan McGlinchey, MSC to begin serving the organization on October 1, 2020, as a newly configured board. We are grateful for the vision and service offered by Sr. Gabriela Castro, MGSpS, Sr. Inma Cuesta, CMS, and Sr. Maritza Cisneros, STJ, who completed their terms.
Sr. Marichui Bringas, CCVI, has been serving as interim Executive Director since June 2020 and will finish her collaboration in December 2020. Sr. Marichui has blessed AHLMA with her energy and willingness to lead this critical transition for our organization.
The board has appointed Sr. Elizabeth Ann Guerrero, MCDP, as Executive Director beginning in January 2021. We welcome Sr. Elizabeth, who brings many gifts to AHLMA. She successfully coordinated the program, Weaving Cultures-Entrelazando Culturas, at MACC. Her experience working with the Latino community and the many leadership and operational skills she brings will allow ALHMA to move into a new moment.
AHLMA’s mission will continue to unfold as it serves Latina Sisters in the United States with your support and collaboration.
Sincerely,
Sr. Teresa Maya, CCVI
